“The Road To Success”

Robert Warlow

Small Business Success

I saw a great quote on an advertising board, ‘The road to success is always under construction.” It started me thinking about how the pathway to success is very much like a road – full of twists and turns. Let’s consider some of the similarities.

Before setting out on any journey you have to decide which road to take – do you go north, south, east or west? On the road to success you must know your destination as well and this means deciding on your goals – where you want to be, what you are going to have and how you are going to get there. Do you know what your goals are? Before you set out on your journey, decide your destination.

On our journeys we know that the road is not always straight, it will include bends and diversions; this is what makes the journey interesting and keeps you awake! The same is for success – don’t expect the journey to be straight forward. Understand you will have unexpected bends to negotiate. This is what makes the achievement of success interesting, motivating and all the more enjoyable.

On long journeys you occasional need to stop and check you are heading in the right direction, to review your map. In seeking success, you should always pause and review your goals. Do you still want to head in that direction? Are you goals still relevant to what you want in life?

Have you tried completing long journeys in one go, with no breaks for rest or food? Your performance slips and you might fall asleep at the wheel! On your journey to success, take breaks from the business, recharge your batteries. Set some time aside to take on board the success equivalent of food – knowledge. Seek out new ideas and ways of doing things.

So see your desire for success as a road journey and one that is always under construction.
