Why You
Don’t Have To Be Positive All The Time.
Every book or article on self-help says you have to
think and be positive all the time but that's just not life. There are going
to be days when we get down and start to question the direction we are
taking. Here are some ideas:
- Give yourself permission to be down for a day or
two. Accept that down days will happen and that's how the mind works.
Let the guilt go and ride the day out. Enjoy being depressed!
- Agree with yourself that you will never make
important business or personal decisions on a down day. Your mind is not
geared up to making the right decisions. If you are lucky enough to work
for yourself at home it can be useful to bunk off for the afternoon. It
can be argued that a down day is your subconscious mind’s way of asking
for a day off anyway!
- If you keep a journal, where you jot down all your
great ideas, review it to remind yourself of all the positive ideas you
have had. It's a good way of telling your subconscious mind, "Listen, I've
nothing to be down about. I'm not useless. Look at all the great ideas
I've had."
- Do a Reasons To Be Cheerful
list. Take
a sheet of paper and write at the top of the page, "What I have to be
cheerful about". Write everything you can think of under family, business,
financial, health and social life. Write it in your journal if you like so
you can review the list at any time. Always add to it as more good things
happen in your life. Open a file on your PC on record these thoughts
- At the end of every day, take 2 minutes to jot down
all the good things which happened during the day. This can be a good
morale booster.
So, enjoy having a down day. It can be a good time for
reflection and an excuse to hit the cake shop!
