Hi everyone
Its been a while since i posted anything, so i thought id start again with this one.
Having being brought up running Windows (relatively speaking) I am now thinking of changing over to Linux.
But before i do, i would like to hear from anyone already using Linux, as to what they think to it.
I would also like to hear from anyone who has already switch over from Windows to Linux?
How did you find it and would you go back to Windows?
Any thoughts or comments would be gratefully received
Caroline

Transgaming's recent release of WineX 3.0 to enable PC games running on Linux and Whil Hentzen's admonishment from Microsoft management over his presentation of Visual FoxPro (VFP) development on Linux using WINE have catapulted the open source project back into the limelight. Joe Barr examines these recent developments and reviews the Windows-vs.-Linux.

A Linux-based system is a modular Unix-like operating system. It derives much of its basic design from principles established in Unix during the 1970s and 1980s.A Linux-based system can be controlled by one or more of a text-based command line interface (CLI), graphical user interface (GUI) (usually the default for desktop), or through controls on the device itself (common on embedded machines).
The primary difference between Linux and many other popular contemporary operating systems is that the Linux kernel and other components are free and open source software. Linux is not the only such operating system, although it is the best-known and most widely used.
On the other hand, Microsoft has taken two parallel routes in its operating systems. One route has been for the home user and the other has been for the professional IT user.

hi there
the best way to do this is to continue to run Windows and test Linux in a virtual machine (VM). This will give you the ability to trial Linux without affecting your current IT setup. For help setting up a VM see here:

Hello.
The difference between the hosting is simply which operating system they run on. It's like running a Windows computer and a Mac. You can do the same things on them e.g. Word Processing but the computers work in slightly different ways.
Personally I would choose linux hosting unless I had some specific need for Windows e.g. MSsql. And with eUKhost, both come with a graphical interface making them both pretty easy to use. Personally I like Linux as it seems more stable and less prone to issues but they both have their strong points.

HELLO.
On the Personal Computer show in December 2003 John C. Dvorak predicted a bright future for Linux. His main points being: it's free, the applications are getting more mainstream, Open Office is a "fabulous" product, the GUI is pretty much like Windows, it's high quality, bullet proof and resistant to the thousands of Windows viruses and worms. If he owned a company with thousands of PCs, he would put everyone on Linux.
To date the only organizations (that I've heard about) using hundreds or thousands of Linux based computers are government agencies in countries all over the world. They may be driven by cost and/or security concerns (practically speaking there are no Linux viruses). Some countries also may not like being beholden to a U.S. based company for so much of their software.

In comparison of windows & Linux, We addicted towards Windows but there is big comparison of security in both,In the absence of anti-virus, virus attracts at your windows but Linux is very powerful OS due to which virus is not attacks in your operating system in the absence of anti-virus.And Linux OS is free to download on-line but the mostly windows are coming in the pirated CD's because of expensiveness.

It depends based on your needs. If you are more into multimedia or gaming Windows should be the best choice.
But when it comes to networking and programming Linux is the best choice.

We are addicted toward Windows otherwise Linux is also the best Operating system because Linux offered the own security toward viruses and for windows we purchase the much costly Anti-Viruses.

I am going with Linux, Overall a Linux based platform can perform most of the tasks equally as well as a proprietary platform using OSS. Linux does have its limitations with some applications and in particular gaming.

Windows are more familiar but even you can use Linux but you have to practice it for some time then you will be ok with it.

why Windows is better than Linux. (1) Installing programs is easy with windows because there is a standard. Try installing VLC and you'll see what I mean. (2) Anytime you try to install or change something on your own computer you have to type a password.

When it comes to security and data or settings manipulation, I for Linux but when it comes to applications, I go for Windows.
To sum it up, the best operating system for me is Linux.

as i have used both windows and Linux ..it is Linux which i more secure then windows but it is more complicated as well and you need to be strong in using command based operations also while in windows it is more easy to use.
