For those of you outside of the UK the country is currently suffering from a strike by the government owned Royal Mail (postal service).
In the Small Business Success blog (http://www.smallbusinesssuccess.biz/forum/blog.php?b=456) there is a interesting piece of feedback that small business owners don't seem that bothered. Many are already making full use of e-mail to send invoices etc. If you have the right bank you don't even have to post a cheque these days.
That said there are those businesses that rely on the mail to deliver their products but now is a wake up call to hunt out alternative methods of delivery. For those who are waiting for payment where cheques (for once!) are in the post, now is a wake up call to speak to suppliers to move to electronic payment.
Whilst strikes can be disruptive it is the ideal time to sit back and think about alternative and probably cheaper and more efficient ways of doing business. How creative can you be?
If strikes make you stop and consider other options, perhaps they are not that bad after all!
Have you ever been forced to find alternative ways of doing business because of a disruptive event?
