What a pity big business is strangling the small man and woman. Most of the convenience stores in Borehamwood and district are owned by the big supermarkets, mostly Tesco and the Co-op. If one produces a local paid for magazine listing as I have done local reliable businesses free adverts the crtieria being they must have a proven track record and be honest reliable trustworthy and provide goods and or service at value for money prices. The big boys make it impossible for you to use them to stock your product. They don't bother to reply to your letters. The local paper sees me as threat to their existence. They publish over 50,000 copies every week and deliver them free. I publish or hope to publish once a year, only 2000 copies.WH Smith SMITH NEWS want 50% of the cover price and 25% for every copy sold sale or return. It cost me 60p to produce. Thankfully a few local newsagents not linked to the big boys will stock my guide including the businesses with retail outlets. :

Yes, you are right. The big supermarkets etc try to portray themselves as 'community' based but their actions suggest differently.
I hope your idea takes off.
Why only produce once a year? Why not quarterly? That way advertisers can promote their latest offers.
