Twitter is growing in popularity and what seemed like a quirky little idea 18 months ago has become the Internet success story of 2009.

Twitter pages are ranking well in search engines and even individual tweets - of just 140 characters - can be found to rank well for long tail phrases.

So have you secured your personal name and brand name of Twitter or have you left it for other people to hijack?

Many personal names have now gone but you may still be able to get your brand.

All you have to do is open a Twitter account at Twitter (http://www.twitter.com)

For more details see Twitter names & brands (http://businesscoaching.typepad.com/the_business_coaching_blo/2009/07/twitter-names-brands-have-you-grabbed-yours.html) on my blog

You may even be able to get some local keyword combinations as Twitter accounts which could rank well eg accountantsbrighton for accountants in Brighton

Even for a phrase that is searched for as many times as Britney Spears, Twitter manages to come well up page 2 of Google [no I don't normally search for Britney but I know her name is one of the phrases searched for most]

it may seem far fetched to you, but in this case - I'd say better safe than sorry... :)
