I realise that some of the issues involved with online marketing are moving pretty quickly but I found the Success Secrets of Online Marketing Superstars an excellent book which introduced me to all londs of new ideas.

In fact it was this book which inspired me to start my Business Coaching blog so in many ways, it did change my life. I am now a total blog addict.

You can see my review of Success Secrets of Online Marketing Superstars (http://businesscoaching.typepad.com/the_business_coaching_blo/2007/10/success-secrets.html) on my blog.

Big subject! But three ways I suggest are:

1. Write articles and submit to article directories - you can fund more out in one of the e-books I offer at www.smallbusinesssuccess.biz/e-book/article_marketing_for_content.htm These serve as backlinks to your site when featured on other sites/newsletters

2. Blogs - search engine love blogs because they are regularly updated. Paul Simister has a great blog and I'm sure he can give you some advice on this subject

3. Fill your site with content on your related subject - again you can pick up articles to publish from the article directories - two good ones are www.ezinearticles.com and www.ideamarketers.com

4. Issue an ezine featuring ideas and news on your sector with links to the articles on your site.

You can find out more about online marketing by going to this page and looking up the Internet Marketing section: www.smallbusinesssuccess.biz/small_business_articles_ideas_tips.htm

On web hosting I use Web Fusion: http://www.webfusion.co.uk . I have had no problems over the years.

Hope that helps but there are many other online techniques but I'll leave the space open for other thoughts!

The book I recommended above Success Secrets of the Online Marketing Superstars is very good as it covers a very wide range of subjects as you will see if you read my review.

Article sites, blogs, content sharing sites are all good but they can be very time consuming and a problem if you don't enjoy writing.

I current have some Article Writing software that I am suppose to be reviewing so I haven't used it yet but I have heard good things about it. See Smart Author Instant Article Creator Pro (https://paydotcom.com/r/19098/spinone/18343795/) (affiliate link).

This leads you through the writing process to help make sure that your articles are well structured and flow logically. If you use article websites, ideally you want your articles to be picked up by other people and used in newsletters etc, all creating extra publicity for you.

Although I write extensively I have only submitted one article to an Article Directory so for some reason I prefer to keep my best content on my own blog.

Blogging

If you have time and you enjoy writing then you can create a great online presence by having a blog focused on your niche market. It is so easy to write and publish.

Most of the experts say you should have a Wordpress blog but it does require some "IT techie" aspects which is why my Typepad blog is much more developed than my Wordpress blog although it does cost a small fee. It hasn't done marketing guru Seth Godin (http://sethgodin.typepad.com/) any harm anyway with one of the most popular blogs on the Internet and a PR7 ranking.

If you want a free blogging course (although you do have to post a promotional item on your blog saying that you are evaluating it) I suggest that you have a look at Mark Joyners blogging course (http://www.simpleology.com/p/blogging/ypc/sbsf/). I am a fan of these simpleology courses because they are well designed and lead nicely into action.

Possibly the best selling of the blogging ebooks is called "Blogging To The Bank (http://businesscoaching.typepad.com/the_business_coaching_blo/2008/01/blogging-to-t-1.html)" by Rob Benwell (the link takes you through to my review)

Ecademy

One of the best ways of promoting an online business is through a networking site called Ecademy

You can see my profile Paul Simister (http://www.ecademy.com/account.php?id=103507&xref=103507).

It does cost to join but if you are prepared to work to use it you can generate a host of links to your site through

a) your own profile
b) posting blogs on Ecademy (they don't like these to be commercial) but they can include your signature
c) commenting on other people's blogs (again use a signature with link back to your site)
d) Marketplace - your place for blatant commercial postings which few members of Ecademy will look at but these are picked up very quickly by Google although they also fade because content is often insufficient to justify a high position and they don't have incoming links.
e) Joining clubs and contributing or even forming your own club. Again this gives you the chance to post (some clubs are commercial, some not, some are private, some are open to Sir Google)

Unfortunately some people join and think that their profile page will be enough. It's not but it is much easier to create lots of links back your website by becoming involved in Ecademy than any other way I can think of.

Paul,

You talk about ecademy - I've read a lot of negative online press about them. This may be old news, and so maybe I'm out of date, but the impression I had was that once you were there you just get bombdarded with 'this is what I can do for you' messages.

I did sign up a long time ago but frankly did nothing with it as I just didn't have the time to make it work for me.

I can see the benefits re back links etc but have you see or experienced the downside?

Hi Rob

Until Paul told me bout Ecademy and suggested i signed up with them, i had never heard of them.

Being a novice on Ecademy, i have found most people to be warm friendly and welcoming.

there have been a few asking me to connect with them, but i generally only reply to the people who are in same line of business, or i could help and visa versa.

My general opinion of Ecademy is still its ok, but you gotta work at it to get it to work for you, as you said, and if your a busy person, this is not always an option you have.

I am in my third year of membership of Ecademy and I make the following admissions:

1 - when you join you can be hit by a lot of welcoming messages. In my day many of these were well intended with tips on how you can get more out of it. You can turn on/off various message options.

2 - some people do see it as a numbers game. The more in their network, regardless of the quality and depth of the relationship the better.

3 - it can be a little cliquey at times and you may be in or out with certain people but most people are nice.

4 - like many social networks, blatant abuses are criticised so if you go in with the intention of spam. spam. spam you won't be popular.

On the positive side, I know of no other way of building high ranking links back to a website and having it spidered quickly and regularly.

You saw Rob what happened when I took steps to promote your new forum. It has fallen down the Google rankings a little bit now but the first impact showed the power for short term campaigns.

My view is that if you are going to join, you have to be prepared to give it your time. If you don't get involved in the clubs and blog, then you won't get the benefits and while there is free membership, it does have restricted use.

Bigger businesses can benefit from the SEO effect but for homeworkers it is a nice environment to enter and chat about the day's events.

Thanks that good summary of ecademy. Guess it's like most aspects of a business - you have to 'work' it to get the best out of it.

Certainly the key advantage is the quick indexing in the search engines and your early mention of this forum helped!

So the message then is that if you have the time and the quality content to share its worth it.

what is the best source to promote your website quickly, need that source that take least time and promote website most efficiently.

Australian Wholesalers Directory (http://www.australianwholesalers.com)|Canadian Wholesalers & Wholesale Products Suppliers (http://www.canadawholesalers.com)|Technology Wholesalers & Distributors Directory (http://www.techwholesalers.com)|World Wide Dropshipping Directory (http://www.worldwidedropshipping.com)

Aqeel,

It's great that you are looking for ways to promote your site but your use of the word 'quickly' is the problem I fear.

Getting exposure on the Internet is no different that building a 'real world' business - it takes time and hard work. Many people think that you just put up a site and that's it but it doesn't work that way.

I stand by the suggested ways of getting traffic I listed earlier in this thread but if you really want 'quick' then the only way is Google Adwords. Here, you pay Google for your site to appear in the right hand side column and the top space on their site.

You can feature at the top within minutes but one word of warning ... it can be expensive and so you have to know your costings and potential profit per click otherwise you can quickly burn a hole in your credit card. See this thread on Pay Per Click (http://www.smallbusinesssuccess.biz/forum/showthread.php?t=15).

I agree with Rob.

Natural search engine optimisation is slow and can be very slow if you are targeting a competitive phrase.

Pay per click is fast but it is very easy to get it wrong and lose a lot of money from clicks that were never going to be buyers. Unless you are prepared to study hard from the masters of PPC I recommend you go to a specialist.

be very clear on what it is you want - local, regional, national, international and also think what you don't want where searches are irrelevant or don't indicate money is likely to be spent.
