Hi ALL

:confused:After much deliberating and general feedback and comments from several different people, i have been adviced to either change or shorten my business name.

At the moment its Carolines Admin & Bookkeeping Services (CABS) for short, but now i am at a total loss as to what i should shorten or change it too.

Any thoughts, Ideas or Suggestions will be gratefully received.:)

I must admit that I'm not too good with thinking up names etc, but how about A&B or AB Services - at least it'll get you near the top of any alphabetically ordered lists.

If I may say so you don't sound that convinced about changing your name. At the risk of confusing you further I would leave it as is for two reasons:

1) The use of your name in the title adds a personal touch to the business and I guess reinforces the message that you personally 'are' the business

2) The name says exactly what your business does and you can't get better than that! Changing it to some werid corporate-type name will lose the message.

I would keep the name but change the focus to more on C.A.Bs - you can use this on your stationery etc but still have the full title shown on the bottom of letters heads - best of both worlds.

Looking at your website, if you go down this route you will need a logo - something I can't really see at the moment.

Is the real issue the length of your url? It is long when you look at as a web address and I can see people struggling with it. If that's the case then look at getting a new url - easier solution all round.

Hi Rob
Thanks for your reply.
yes you are right bout not quite sure whether i want to change the business name, as all my stationery, chq books, credit cards are all in that name. i have looked into trying to get the URL for CABs and others simular, they are all taken, and getting hold of 3 letter URLs could also be very expensive.

Having tried these routes already, i am stuck to what or which way i go from this point.

which is why i was thinking bout then name change.

As I said before, I'm useless at thinking up names - jusk ask my son :) - anyway as you have all your accounts in your name already it's going to be a complete pain to change them all.

As Rob mentioned, the length of your URL - you can get cabs.gb.com for two years at £30 which is available as I type, have a look at 123-reg.co.uk - it may well give you a new "look" you want without having to change anything at all...

Hi rod

i did look into 123-reg.co.uk, and i did notice that name was available, but having paid out £8.99 ( yes although not very expensive) for 2 years on my current domain name, £30 seems alot of money to me right now, as i dont have any money coming into the business right now, but as i said, i shall keep everything suggested into consideration for later on

I agree with Rob.

I would stick with your name as it says what you do and presents a personal touch unless you want to expand and have lots of bookkeeping staff.

Names need to be memorable and meaningful unless you've got a boatload of money to chuck at building a brand.

I'm not wanting to upset the apple cart, but I think you should change your company name... Or at least, think about the following...

I recently worked with a book keeping client in South London, now her name was Admin To Admin. Now this obviously didn't explain what she did, but I think it was because she had registered the website address, and so incorporated the business name around this (not a good idea). Anyway...

She wanted to attract a better type of client, in terms of fees, size, locality etc.

Now given that almost every message you send out is interpreted in some way (both good and/or bad) by the client. I suggested that she simply change the company name to Kensington Book Keeping Consultancy.

It told you a) what area she worked in (so she's not 'all things to all people' but has a niche area) b) told you what she did! and c) that a certain level of 'expertise' was protrayed and d) it will help in terms of the search engines.

It's only one small part of your marketing strategy - but you need to think about the kind of clients you want to attract and then reflect that in the name.

So, yes, I would think about changing your name :)

Hi Andrew

Thanks for your comments and reply, they are duly noted.

In regards to changing my company name i have already got one although it has not gone live yet, as i am waiting for my old domain and website creator subscription to end first before i start the new one.

My new company name is bookkeeping-to-admin
