Is there really a way to "recession-proof" a business? I guess it all depends on the business and how bad the recession is.

Hi Chuck
Essentially a recession is pretty much like a crisis and a crisis is an event we all knew was going to happen, but expect it so soon.
We know things are going wrong but avoid taking action. We say lets watch the signs and when they get scarry we will then wait through another two quarters of negative growth before we decide to OFFICIALY declare we are in a recession.
You see procrastination travels so slowly that crisis always overtakes it.
Yes we can do something about recessions as we canwith any other problem.
The key is watch the trends to determine the likely outcomes and take action before the outcomes become disasters.
When everything is rosey and smelling good the thorns are still growing.
Cheers
Cliff
I like this quote: 'When everything is rosey and smelling good the thorns are still growing' - sums it up very well.
During the good times all of us become lazy, we are blind to the obvious. We all fell into the trap that 'boom and bust' was over - stupid or what!
It's about being aware, walking around with our eyes and actively searching our where things can go wrong.
By the way, if you didn't open Cliff's attachment in the first post of this thread I featured it today in my newsletter. You can read his article 'Recession Proof Your Business' (http://www.smallbusinesssuccess.biz/articles_week/recession_proof_your_business.htm) on this site.
