Search Engine Ranking Positions (SERPs) - What's Your Best Option

If your website is not among the Top10/20 of the search engines listing you're letting hundreds of dollars worth of potential sales slip right through your fingers like dry sand from a sieve. A very true and undeniable statement of Fact.

This is because the majority of the people who click on keywords searching for information or products to buy have little patience and expect to find what they want on the first or maybe the second page of their search results. Google, Yahoo and MSN are very much aware of this impatience and short attention span of the search engine users and vie with each other to give the users the best possible service and hence strive to present the Choicest Websites on their First ranking page. Fair enough. But where does this state of affairs leave us small-business Website Owners?

We are constantly being hounded to buy this SEO (search engine optimization) strategy or the other to get our Website to the top 10 of the search engine listings. Knowledge and updated information to keep tabs on what is going on is highly important, it is true, because Search Engines quite often decide to change their ranking criteria to ensure the best service to their users as discussed above. However, we have to be cautious since we may be buying an SEO strategy that was fine last month but isn't relevant any more, not to mention that there is software on the market that can have you black-listed by the Search Engines if you are discovered using it; a kind of spy-software that enables you to capture the hot keywords of your competitor pages and paste them on your own.

What is my point? On one hand, you may have a Website that sucks as regards ranking, visitors and paying customers and you know that you have to do something about your precarious situation. On the other hand you are completely bogged down by information and offers to buy this and that to enhance your ranking position but you are at a loss what to do next. Should you invest in an SEO strategy? Perhaps these so-called techniques do work for some, but will they work for you? And how do you expect them to give you better results if your business is built on shaky foundations?

What you should do is to start by evaluating your business, because to put it bluntly, if you do not have a good product to sell, buying an SEO technique is not worth all the hassle and expense. Let's say you're in affiliate business together with thousands of others trying to sell the same or a similar product, what are your chances of financial success? Very bleak in my opinion! There are some well-established internet gurus who have a mailing-list of their own a mile long who succeed and make thousands per month, but these people are in a class of their own. Your best option is to start at the beginning and stop working for somebody else!!!

As stated above, buying an SEO strategy does not make sense at this point. Let us consider an analogy. Suppose that you propose to construct an ornamental wooden box or case. Would you buy the sandpaper and paintbrush first? Of course not, the first thing that you would do is consider what you need the box for, perhaps to hold your cigars or better still if you do really need it. This box is going to cost you a lot of time and money. Your next step requires deep thinking about the best way of designing and drawing up a plan of your project, choosing a good piece of timber like walnut or mahagony and a whole set of tools to work with, possibly the latest and including the sandpaper and paintbrush.

If we superimpose the skeleton of our analogy over a framework of the best plan for an internet business it is easy to see that both lines of action fit exactly, and that the logistics are the same:

(1) research (what are people asking for and what can you offer them). This is the crux of the matter. Find a product of your own.

(2) plan and design (think of your budget, the price your competition is asking for a similar product, your profit against your expenses),

(3) Get the best suite of tools (your Website must be built on sound foundations, with good content), With the state-of-art tools in hand, you're half way to financial success. You cannot fail.

(4) Load your Website with the material that the Search Engines love and you can rest assured of a high ranking position in their listings and thousands of targeted visitors ready to buy your product.
